The Innocentian Empire.- "The radios listen to your conversations. And every street lamp, the light inside them is watched through a hivemind somewhere. I don't know where. No one knows. All that know, is that there are certain names you can say anywhere that will get you taken." Says a Dwaskin.
- "Gangs, politicians and entrepreneurs. All of them mean the same thing over there. And despite that, we are indebted and grateful for them." Says a Polganish.
- "Innocentians are perpetually a single bite from being full, always. They don't have hunger or porverty, because they remove those types. There's no room for defect. No enemy hated enough. No prosperity adequate." Says a Griseonian.
- "They're an ant colony that pretends its a high society. It chooses dollar over power, and enslaves themselves just so they can hammer and bolt into a peasant's mansion." Says a Voluntan. It's a large industrial technocratic nation in the East of Aranea, being an archipelago of twelve medium-sized landmasses formed in an outer ring, called the Outlander Kingdoms and its people Outlanders, while the inner three call themselves Silver Islanders, and the people at the centre of this massive state are the Kesterians. They organize these roles into a strong social strata with clear definitions and strong beliefs on what makes what. To briefly explain the social hierachy, it works like this:Kesterian ( People of Kester ) > Silver Islanders ( Belgia, Seno and Kilgra Kingdoms ) > Outlanders > Criminals > Foreigners. To break this down further...- Kingmakers: Currently dominated by Dermonts as makers of the system. They head branches of government, including the highest law-making office of the Magna Aula that effectively forms government by its decree. The main power structures of society, along with national monopolies for strategic resources, often minerals and the lucrative light mines, are directed by them in proxy or as a formal head. In practice, Dermonts are a sub-strata between Ministers and Monarchs that are "Guardians/Custodians". They've historically protected monarchs and persons of interest, becoming symbols of prosperity and security as the strongest magic users of the realm. However, in recent times, this strata has welcomed a few private citizens of particular note, and corporate CEOs. Both sides see each other incorrectly between intent to share privilege and profit, or serve their duty.Lexin POV: Lexin is disinterested in politics, but takes an arrogant approach to them like peasants to her godhood, respectfully. Her superiors use her like a pawn by secluding her to the Ministry of War, free to run wild with her curiosities and black budget programs so the evidence may one day destroy her character and bring her down. She's still a fundamental piece of the Innocentian system, being its great bulwark and safety net to re-establish public order and compliance. She's a strong symbol against their enemies. However, Lexin is someone disinterested in politics and devoted to the advancement of Innocentia as a nation, which doesn't take kindly to corporate influences. Therefore, the Kingmakers seclude her to the Ministry of War, free to run wild with her curiosity and black budget programs so the evidence can consume her later, when it's convenient.- Monarchs: In theory, Innocentia is a council of twelve kings under the Kesterian's crown. This is most definitely not the case anymore. Councils are now shadowed by Dermont Consultation Co, ran by the oligarch Francis Dermont at Internal Affairs. The consulting company is tasked with being an advisor to the monarchs to manage the land and represent federal interest. However, as Innocentia is a nation of monopolies, the consultants have grown in power significantly through coordination of private enterprise and the ability to petition federal resources in states of emergency. In counter-balance, monarchs typically run or charter companies to wrestle influence back.- Lexin POV: She is favoured amongst them, even Outlander monarchs. Most noble families have served with her during Victor's War through ancestry. Naturally, their descendants are appreciative and ask for stories. Lexin finds it important to harbour good relationships with them for further cooperation. As she is the largest gun holder in the nation, you can imagine why the feeling is mutual.- Ministers / High-ranking Magisters: With a far-reaching surveillance apparatus and sweeping state powers, Innocentia prizes itself on consolidation. Cabinet ministers, lords of the treasury, overseer of taxation. The Department of Light Energy. There are many departments within the government that make the upper echelon have a vast array of tools to influence daily life. Bureaucrats, due to them being non-nobles and therefore weaker in magic, tend to be anti-aristocracy and pro-coorporate and Dermont by jealousy and paranoia. High-ranking Magisters are the opposite, often aligning with traditional systems and teaching their world view in Innocentian schools. They typically are the strongest magic users in the nation, with their training being a secret to old castles, underground compounds and islands purposefully left off maps.Lexin POV: She finds them essential and useful invertebrates, but that's about where her graces end and faked pleasantries begin. As part of her Soul Science research, Lexin has secured a deal with the Minister of Light Energy to pass resources under the table, needed muchly for her experiments. She's viewed in high regard by this class for being strong and enduring, having served for over seven decades.- Co-orperate Leaders: Huge swaths of the economy are headed by a C-suite class of individuals as supposed "masters of andatism". They are a rather new class that sprung up only a few decades ago after the closure of Victor's War, and the state required a new driving force to re-build a shattered economy. Much of the state started to privatize, selling at below market price. Since then, with laws in place that can remove any business leader from their post by decree, much of the C-suite is state-aligned or remain friendly with Dermont members. However, a movement stirs amongst them with the value of religion over profit. Strictly speaking, Andatism pushes communal values that makes certain practices. A smart cooperate leader wants to align itself with the government as closely as possible, as not only does that alleviate scrutiny, but make-up the central power bloc that dominates modern Innocentia.- The Brooch Hall ( Nobility, Scholars, Lawyers, Engineers, etc ): A noble-ran organization that used to be the kesterian king's main advisory board. Now it's used like a festering ground for the "enlightened" to come together in think tanks and connect promising individuals with the right people. If you want a ticket into higher stratas, to become somebody, then Brooch Hall is the natural route, with membership in its distinct brooches securing privilege and opportunity. All Brooch Hall members are Silver Islanders by default when becoming a memeber. This is intentional, to disassociate heritage from place of birth, but merit and legacy.- Artisans ( The state encourages the arts as bastions of culture, family and commerce. Historically, the Artisan used to have similar power to the engineer, dining in high society and working hand in hand with inventors. To craft with your hands, to make beauty, was once the highest respect you could earn during the Innocentian cultural golden age of the 5th era. Nowadays, this sentiment is still true, with many persons being employed by the upper class or joining a parade. Only recently has music and radio become a mainstream. And then, there's poets, who champion Innocentia's story of the dark truth regarding this social class: many of them are debt slaves, prisoners or abused as objects of talent or a pet to be extracted from, with many works being stolen from then and branded under a royal's name. Historically, they were treated similar to early engineers.Becoming an Artisan requires state recognition before being granted more rights that allow them to live, work and travel anywhere in the Empire. They have social security, sponsorship for opportunities andAn industrialized and ethno-nationalist nation based in the East of Aranea, being a collection of large islands that each, at one point, had their own kingdom, politics and dynasties. Now those same dynasties are serving the Dermonts at the helm. Although they don’t hold many visibly tyrannical placements in government, they are often opulent figures that have extremely valuable positions in their own right, from a military marshal to the chairman of the national committee governing the lucrative light mines.Their structure of government is a monarchy that is really just an oligarchy of sorts. At the top is an elected king, then the Magna Aula, the haul of thirteen lords representing the kingdoms of the nation, with the thirteenth given sweeping powers they could active any moment, currently seated by the legacy-hunting and chipped-shoulder brute of Oswald Dermont II, chasing the shadow of his grandfather. They're seafaring people, with trade and commerce having been essential to survival and communication. At one point, even the seafarers had excellent magic proficiency to cast their own stars into the sky to lead the way home. People believed that the sea was their great challenge, whether to carry valuable information, goods, weapons or medicine. Their journeys gave them strength as merchants and Serenity Innocentia, their god, is said to whisper in the ears of the drowning. This act was suppressed over centuries after the Merchant Guild revolt in 4E 89.Innocentia carries a mindset like late-stage capitalism and laissez faire attitude, propping up several militaristic and hostile companies that are mainly keeled by shrewd laws that prevent magical power to be harnessed in great quality amongst no one but the royals, nobility, military and Innocentia’s main religious organization: The Andate Order, where practitioners are called Magisters. As once upon a time, Magisters were the sole bringers of knowledge, delving into the Realm of Calm to study the means of benevolent ambition in a spiritual purgatory. At least, that’s their theory. The main philosophy centres around finding an individual’s worth to society, to their neighbours and to themselves. Making laziness very frowned upon. Cleanliness, respect, gentry, expressionist art, industry, literature. Depending on the person, they’d have different values to the set idea, giving someone the illusion of making their own choices while propaganda and war monger rhetoric drive the population into passionate frenzies. You can see these values in their architecture and cities, being clean and often unique with colours and edges, features and embankments. They idolize poets, generals, inventors, capitalists and anyone of high merit. And in at least the four kingdoms closest to the capital, Innocentia is a high trust communal society that is one of the leaders of military and quality of life innovations. In the other kingdoms, life is tougher when you live outside their cities. Railways are constantly being laid to new mines. New factories need to replace their workers. And some have suspected a slave trade through a ring of company owners and nobles that manipulate the meritocratic system to move bodies of workers. All to make the poverty statistic as low as possible. Debt slavery, I mean social security, is often the lowest strata possible. Far from the glistening Universities that house competitive students, down into the Light Mines where they strike the veins of a new form of ore-fied magic, fuelling the economy with its energy properties while being highly volatile. The practice is opposed by the Andate Order who believe in it disturbing the core of the world. However, they’re often too occupied with managing their own apparatus, constantly assaulted by small bands of insurgents, criminals and rogue magic users, while also spying abroad and sabotaging their enemies. Not all Innocentians are equal. But neither are birthrights. Adult Innocentians are expected to show their worth to keep their place in society to local Magisters and committees. Should one be inadequate, then they’re pressured to the outskirts or Outer Kingdoms of the Empire. This tends to be more impoverished and focus on resource extraction, meaning labour is easy. They don’t take too kindly to those unable to work, or in their terms “Defective” as plastered across the schools and radio advertisements. They’re the only nation that makes all their magic learning schools entirely state-run and often secret, usually inside old castles or large libraries and abandoned island compounds that keep their work secret.
Origin
The formation of the nations of Aranea are generally mythic. For Innocentia, there is slightly more realism that prioritizes human's merit. They called it the Silver Union. A confederation of Kingdoms within the Silver Isles: Belgia, Seno, Kilgra and the City-State of Kester. These Kingdoms still exist and make up the "good" portion of Innocentian society. At the time, they were ruled by the Estran Family, the original harbingers of Adjudication Light that was ordained by Serenity herself. They were her listeners, the prophets and the protectors. Only they have the origins of their people, how they came to the archipelagos and an event only referred to as "The Great Storm."Even then, the people were seafarers and Adjudication Light was used to conquer it, leading to several individualists that took the craft and invented new disciplines. Over time, the Silver Union world grew bigger when a mysterious enemy arrived on the shores of Senia. Answering the call to help, they aided the Senians in an attrition-heavy war of extinction that gave the union a very bloody nose. However, in their plight, they emerged with ways to take Serenity's benevolent gift and turn it into righteous purging light that vanquished their enemies.Soon after, the Estran family came under siege from their own collapsing powerbase. To survive, they taught the people how to resist the invaders, then began to resist their masters. The ensuing civil war destroyed the entire Innocentian archipelagos in a complex rift between alliances, factions and disturbed bystanders that killed over half their population. The Estran Family fell during this time too, leading to the rise of a new breed that harnessed an even higher form of Adjud Light. Reckoning Light. The Silver Union suffered terribly in these wars, with duchies becoming vassals to Magnus in humiliating settlements. Their adversary wasn’t conventional by any means. Though each side bore armour and swords, only one came equipped with the power of ambition. Iron Heart. The ability to manipulate material, making them untouched in metallurgy, contributing greatly to their loss as they were poised as invincible. The wars continued for two hundred years of humiliation that the SU struck back while on the verge of extinction. As the Polganish Domain fought to conquer the remainder of the archipelago, there came an unexpected clash between Iron Heart and Innocentia’s power of ambition, Reckoning Light.Dermonts. They were the bodyguards of the Estran family, having revolted after seeing their selfish malevolent gain. So goes the story. After ousting their former masters, they became the new listeners that slowly claimed the Innocentian isles, even defeating the Polganish Fleet after centuries of Polganish dominance both land and sea. The Iron and Silver wars, as they are called, are the last stretch of Innocentian formation that saw the archipelago band together, fight side by side, and march into death of harsh foreign lands. Through their survival, a brotherhood formed. And thus, Innocentia was proclaimed in Kester, first as an idea by the Dermonts, then carried through the hardest parts of their history and culture to finally become a nation of blood and glory.
Recent Times
Innocentia is recently coming off of Victor's War. 6E 64 to 94.They lost millions of people in Aranea's first global conflict that saw all four nations come to blows in different ways, fragment, fight itself, genocide and somehow escape with all nations still kicking, with even the birth of an older, formally colonized landmass and kingdom: Dwaskania. As its now been almost twenty years since the end, Innocentia has further radicalized under the leadership of Oswald Dermont II.Furthermore, his attempts to re-write the losses of that war became just one arm he employs to galvanize the public into another frenzy fit for war, using the fear of the new Dwaskania and the Innocentian communities in their North. They've entered an alliance with Polgan, their historical ally since the 4th era, and now seek to provoke war in a game of chess that only Oswald, Dermonts and key agitators know of.Economically, Innocentia has progressed through further urbanization that sees an even sharper divide between their central and outer kingdoms. The increased usage of Light Mines has caused the spur of a new natural disaster called a "Judge Flare" that sees an Adjud vein in the ground suddenly burst and cause confused benevolent spirits, "Crying Maidens" to unknowingly kill locals where the air is thickest with magic, desiring to protect the human from the exposure.Socially, Victor's War is a sensitive subject that has caused many insurgent groups and anti-government societies that want more liberal reform and communal networks, ranging from militant, to agitator to passive protest. The most powerful and most violent is "The Four-Finger Hand" that involves a group of robin hood-like assassins attacking the country's elite. Their name being a tribute to the nature of working conditions in the Outer Kingdoms that often make them lose digits in machinery, explosions or corporate punishment.Gangs are more relevant than ever, with the government formally ignoring their existence to pad crime statistics, leaving it to the overstretched Andate Order, special operatives and loyal citizens. This has grown more difficult over time, with violence spilling into the streets. Innocentia invests massively in keeping the ugly cracks within itself hidden from the public to cast a totalitarian image. Recently, further politics have entered their schooling to combat social unrest, with huge political rallies to boot.
General Relations
Ruler: Nicolaus Oscar ( The Director ) - PolganSince the Battle of Betydandan in 4E 21 - The average Polganish and Innocentian share a sort of kinship. Although they may not always align, they don't want to oppose each other. They're each other's biggest trading partners, sharing technology, workforce and ideas. But despite their defence treaty at the time of Victor's War, Polgan descended into civil war with Innocentia using their land as a supply base to attack Voluntas nearby. When the war was over, the new socialist government makes Innocentia uneasy, with several informal deals over generations and families being in a dubious state. However, even so, their people remain cordial.Ruler: Fredrich Voluntas ( Kaiser ) - VoluntasInnocentia's main rival in every sense of the word. Both have tried to exterminate the other at some point in history, but never succeeded. Ironically, the one time they came together, they dominated the continent. The Gold and Silver yoke, which existed in some form of cohesion right until Victor's War, symbolic by their joint colonization of Dwaskania for almost two hundred years. Begrudgingly, the two nations work together in the field of medical science to combat The Wailing Virus, a non-physical ailment that infects the core of people's ability to use magic, the "Sting" inside the soul, decaying it and causing the person to deform, suffer and rot but unable to die. Currently, they suspect a "Carrier" to be somewhere on the continent cuasing new outbreaks.Ruler: Eudoxia ( Empress ) - Dwaskania/DwaskBeing Aranea's newest nation, Innocentia sees their Voluntan-blood ruler with massive amounts of suspicion, naming Eudoxia "Heretical Red" for the moment she drowned Kester in smoke from the fire of Innocentian ships. However, it's also a matter of national dignity to cover up their actions in Victor's War. Through the "Bellray Decree" Lexin was given the implied clearance to create murder factories and gore-infested fields that say her artistic depravity reach inhuman levels on such a mass scale that ended millions upon millions of anyone the Young Marshall could get her hands on. For now though, Innocentia has taken aRuler: The Shepherd - GriseonyThey share a mixed relationship. Griseony and Innocentia have openly clashed during Victor's War and much of their citizenry blame the other for the suffering. Griseony has long taken a very neutral stance in political affairs and urged peace. Even in war, they led the humanitarian efforts on both sides. However, this position has been questioned by the Innocentian state, accusing biases and further warping the war's perception by accusing Griseony for causing all this death. In response, Innocentia has been eager to lure their citizens to taste the fruits of innovation and break their primitive serfdom. This has led to one Griseonian figure named Lazarus to begin plotting a new conflict against The Shepherd to bring his nation into the modern era, using the Wailing Virus carrier: Marie Brinvilliers.
Government
Government: Federal Constitutional Monarchy
Capital: Kester
Head of State: High Sovereign
Religious Institute: Andate Order
Religious Authority: Great Benevolent, Magisters
Currency: Addies(informal term), Sovereigns(notes), Tatro(coin). They refer money collectively as "Silver".
The Innocentian Empire is a federation of twelve monarchies across the Innocentian Archipelago, consisting of the Kingdoms of Dethumbra, Belgia, Seno, Kilgra, Kester, Heleyra, Fraxon, Leonida, Midasburgh, Oxtroy, Jistrol and Axtolia. Historically, these regions have had their own monarchy that governs and controls home politics with a representative towards the empire’s court, called the Magna Aula. The Magna Aula presides over the Aula, a body of elected scholars and other experts that proportionally represented their Kingdom into twelve parties, the head of which was their Monarch’s representative. Candidacy to become part of the Aula, a person must possess a Civilian Accolade, recognizing them as someone of influence and achievement. This is usually obtained through service as a successful mayor, a position locally elected. But it can also be through Cultural awards, Talent awards and Valour, amongst other civilian ranks.Once a bill passed, it moved upwards towards the Magna Aula, a body of twelve individuals that finalize the bills that concern the whole Empire and its foreign policy. Each member held the title of “Dominus of ___” the land they represent and cast a single vote. This often led to deadlocks and so, the system has since been altered at the 5th Era’s dawn. Now, the monarchs hold the title of Dominus. Governorship now is regulated to the Monarch's party, where a candidate is elected by the party members, then is approved by the Thirteenth Dominus, the Magna Dominus. They are the Dermont Family, former monarchs of Kester but now preside over the proceedings with another dynasty in their place. The M.D can nullify any bill or pass it through in the case of a deadlock, as well as declare war. This includes the power to be immune from LAW, as well as their family - and force through their own decrees through dictates without checks or balance. They are benevolent dictators in culture and politics, enshrined in their religion, the ones who guide the High Sovereign as his/her guardian. The High Sovereign is the head of state, generally a single dynasty until ousted by the M.A. A majority of their absolute power is vested within the Magna Aula. The High Sovereign is primarily a ceremonial figure of the interior, but they may propose laws, suspend the Aula and vote in the event of a tie, they can also choose a President, it must first be approved by the M.A. The President then forms government, oversees the councils that chooses Aula Candidates and general internal policy. The only other entity comes with the Andate Order, which plays a key role in civilian life, surveillance, culture and as the Judicial Branch, forming the nation's legal courts. They administer places of worship and are the sole religious institute within the Empire. Their teachings tend to mould society into a collective group that scorns those who stray from it. It serves them well in politics, as their members hold powerful ties within government and a vital role in the military's Adjudication Light branch, The Magister Division, made up of Innocentia’s most potent wielders of ambition outside of the nobility and Dermonts. The Great Benevolent may also grant civilian awards, as well as declare festivals and Great Mandates, their term for a religious war.
Internal Struggles
Social Revolution - Industrialization is an inevitable prospect for a modern nation. The current doctrine has since been to maximise efficiency and quality for the sake of the state, to keep moving forward, lest the lesser may try to overcome you. This change has been steady since the dawn of the 6th Era, where businesses have grown in strength within specialized goods. Some industries have been nationalized and major businesses formed within the elite, such as shipping, weapon manufacturing, railroads and small-boat businesses. As industries come synonymous with a few businesses in each, there has dawned an era of accepted exploitation of workers for the sake of competing, where the working people endured on the principle of the war effort. Now, as the war has been closed for twenty years, the emerging working culture clash with old work models as the people now demand more, inspired by the socialist revolution within Polgan.Old Feuds - What are we but petty souls? The Magna Aula is a place of executive decision but has been home to some of its most intense politickings over the years, especially in the past. From assassination plots to character defamation, maneuvers to stop motions for their own gain or weaken their rival kingdom within the Empire, which is why the M.D had banned factions within the Aula and Magna Aula. It leaks down further into the noble class, where powerful lesser families jockey to represent their kingdom within the Magna Aula and replace their rival. While the tradition of willingly cycling through the families in each passing of a new Dominus has been upheld, the assassination of the Dominus of Jixtrol in 7E 04 has stirred the pot, making the nation's most executive arm uneasy.Bitter Spirit - Victor’s War claimed millions from every nation, either directly or indirectly. Innocentia itself experienced over a million casualties and more through hardship in the homeland from harsh conditions enforced to maintain their war effort far beyond its stamina. And what did they have to show for it? Nothing but the loss of Northern Dwask and a nation exhausted, its economy strained and preyed upon the common man to keep it fuelled. Who is to blame? Well, many believe it’s Dwask and Voluntas, those who threatened their nation that started Victor’s War, the ones who killed their brave men and women and ruined the lives of tens of millions of their own for generations to come. The Innocentians want blood and it just so happens the Magna Dominus of Innocentia wants to heed their calls for his own selfish ambition to outpace his father, the one who led Innocentia through the conflict.
Powerful Factions
Dockyard Gangs - During Victor's War, Innocentia accepted a mild tolerance towards criminal activity so long as they conducted counter-espionage, sabotage and secret edicts on the government's behalf. Post war, much of them remain and have been let off their leash, back to being hunted. Economic woes led to many joining their ranks, and their control of the ports and private enterprises allowed them political levy over local governments. They are scattered across the nation, some less secretive than others, using bribery, extortion, facilitate black market trade, murder, racketeering, trafficking. It's a question whether or not some is state sponsored.League Of Pearl - This is considered a de facto secret society of some of Innocentia's most powerful business men and women, as well as politicians, military officials, diplomats and influential civilians. Together they control a large swath of the Innocentian market, control competition and civil matters on a cultural level. They often use their influence to pressure the government as well as facilitate or otherwise sabotage the rise and fall of anyone they please. They work closely with the Dockyard Gangs.Siren Company - Innocentia's state sponsored logistical conglomerate from Jixtrol, specializing in trade ship vessel manufacturing as Silver Sea Trade, trucks as Ianson Automotive, trains as A.L.L ( Adjudication Light Locomotive and even small armaments as Regalia Side-Arm. They also dabble inside Innocentia's R&D sector, with their business running cutting edge technology in order to keep Innocentian trade at the top of their game. The business's elite owns special sway with some of the nation's nobility, seeing them as almost equal. Recently, they have tried to expand into warship production and armaments, based on the standardizing of Adjudication Light into fuel and projectile. The Four-Finger Hand - They have many names as they are a bundle of factions. Some are gangs, some are political movements and others are pure terrorists, each with their own motives. Their name originates from post Victor's War when the poverty and unemployment led to the radicalisation of many, pushing them into crime and political struggle. They have a reputation for anti-government action, either against the monarch of their kingdom, or the Empire's ruler themself. The most radical oppose Dermont. Each have their own method of conducting, but they are synonymous with criminal activity, corruption and violence.
Culture
Innocentian culture is rooted in deep-seated nationalism and scorn against outsiders or those perceived as different from them. They're idealistic, communal and tough people. The people are loyal to Dermont, King and Country, seeing Dermont as diety-like beings while their King is still human. They're the kind of people that like a bit of uniform, schedules, work ethics that are actually a government agency, and a focus for efficiency to keep their nation ahead of the curve, especially to justify their power.Beyond the Innocentian (English) language, Innocentians are marked by their ability to harness Adjudication Light, the manifestation of selfless ambition, as well as belief in their religion Andatism - Belief of Mandates. Despite this, attempts to unify into one homogenous society has had mixed success. Hundredss of languages and dialects were wiped over the course of the 4th and 5th eras, with new dialects forming and nuances between the people. Oftentimes, it is the nobles of the area that have kept their individual culture afloat and propogate it.In response, the Innocentian state prioritizes those who follow their ideas closer. This being their caste system, based on living arrangement. If you lived in a certain kingdom, you were considered better than those in the Outer kingdoms. Generally, a person from the Silver Isles (Senia, Belgia or Kilgra) has far better odds to find more fulfilling work, more thorough education and more lucrative opportunities with favourable government programs. However, they are also more intensive and come with a pressure not everyone is meant to handle. Many of these people have the viewpoint of "Putting the nation on their backs" given they often have the most advanced factories, contribute the best units to the army and also make up a majority of the Magister ranks. They are also the bureaucrats, specialized engineers, doctors and scientists. While the Outer Kingdoms(The Bronze Ring) focus more on literature, jobs in resource extraction, labourers, small business and anything option they can find, leading to mixed success in their unsubsidized life. Struggling poor families have often banded together to form oligarchies and mafias that rule entire towns under the watch of sympathetic politicians. However, amongst all the classes and sub-classes of people exists the Kesterian and Honourary Kesterian at the top. This is mostly a title given to those who’ve shown great talent, achievement or academic ability. It’s a symbol of worth that provides benefits, such as residence within Kester, tax breaks, preference in jobs, and amongst other favouritism roles within Innocentia Empire-wide. It is mandatory for all influential government roles, just to make the impression of high-standard administration, making Kesterians the backbone of government and the highest civilian rank one can achieve. And thus, even if Kesterians are their masters, they don't direct their anger at them.Alcohol is one of their unifying symbols. Their organized sports as well, favouring a form of racing that enjoys destruction of vehicles and machine. Sailing nomad societies are also relevant, with entire fleets under merchant captains that hold to older traditions, such as sail. This is all celebrated over Artisan Day, a day of celebrating contributions and their progress as a nation.

Lexin Dermont is a General within the Innocentian Army that commands the Army of the Final Reserve. Her own soul-embedded army of killed soldiers. Her name means a LOT to those that ask about it. She is renown for winning over two hundred hundred battles for Innocentia throughout her eighty years of service. And hated for the millions she killed both brutally, systemically and with universal hunger to accumulate more soul-bound soldiers. And on her wake, she would spread the organs, bones and tissue of thousands of "new recruits" into a blood-soaked field to create her limb gardens, forever imprinting her terror into the population of her enemies. She mind-warped a portionLexin Dermont is Adjutant Primaris within Section 010-A of the Ministry of Human Logistics. Her character is one of refined demeanour, exceeding arrogance and a sharp coldness and tongue, mixed in with contempt for whom she calls "lessers" and unexpected warmth when appeased. She believes herself to be God, directly giving herself the title "God Herself" and carries herself with such grace, fortitude and is often reinforced by those both terrified of her and those that belove. Naturally, this makes her used to praise, but albeit stumbly and flustered when receiving endearing compliments or being treated at a lower station. Though, do play with this fire safely, lesser. Where she gets this stature is partially due to her power, tied to collecting soldier hordes through murder, to which she used her military career to bring this to an industrial scale. Now, after many years, she has over ten million. Her nation therefore refers to it as "The Army of the Final Reserve" that grants her the rank of Field Marshal, even if not commanding army groups currently. She remains one of six said Field Marshals. Perhaps the most hated and beloved one simultaneously.Hated by other Kesterians because of her stature and lopsided power while not being amused by their laziness. The Mandate Order for her beliefs of godliness and having drawn more and more to her worship still. All foreigners for the millions upon millions she killed in genocide and brutal war. Secret societies that see her representing the establishment.Loved by many normal people, the army and navy, industrialists and anyone non-aristocrat thanks to her charity donations and welfare advocacy, egalitarian doctrine, generous labour grants and decades of propaganda in mix with real warm stories of Lexin caring for their grandfathers and fathers in battle.Within Section 010-A, she is in charge of responding to labour shortages and manning national projects using "National Workers" that reflects much like conscription, although initially voluntary. Due to difficult times within Innocentia from exploding organized crime and a general recession going on, her roster has grew hugely on account that Section 010-A is fundamentally welfare to have employment and a living, regardless of status. However, under the blanket, Lexin conducts human and soul experimentation, trying to find ways to make her people stronger through magic and serums. Much more boldly as well is her intent to use her own "army" of ten million and replace real workers in factories, increasing her influence and currying favour with industrialists who are more than happy to avoid wages.Naturally, it's a scheme kept under wraps and has a panicogenic fume radiating from any compound of hers, because those who knew fear showing that they do, since one of the truest theories that keeps anyone with authority awake is the fact her zombies are stalking the entire realm. Given they look almost similar to living people, can act and now even WORK, beyond looking deep into their eyes, almost anyone can be it. Lexin herself hardly needs to appear to do dirty work. She much rather stay within her compounds to find ways to improve her hordes, make them more complex, remember the skills of their past life, then replace more and more of the labour force until she runs an entire war machine in her subconscious. In her off-time, she explores much of what she missed throughout life so far. Since 14, she has been in constant motion within the military and being conditioned as the nation's superweapon, to which she succeeded. This has left part of her feeling a hole, even if she doesn't speak about such. She gravitates towards new experiences, enjoying her luxuries and making talk with normal folk, even if it's to see them kiss her boot. "What life has to offer? I'm not sure. Even when I grip a cup of tea, I often break the handle from a trigger finger that does only what it knows to do."Still. Lexin is a lover of combat (even if her arrogance makes her selective and scummy) and all things martial art. She's a studier of her nation's kicking martial art which involves more beauty with punishing strike and momentum, favouring acrobatic maneuvers and flashy kicks. Her natural weapon of choice in hand-to-hand has be wire, using her mind-breaking speed to wrap up limbs, strike with her fists, then end with a kick. This could get very lethal once she runs her magic across them, effectively bypassing durability to cut through most things magic and physical. Plus, she remains a crack-shot with one-handed firearms while lagging with rifles due to her being an officer. Naturally, she also enjoys grappling. She schedules her time to practice everything weekly. Then, when it's done, you'll often find her sitting in obscure locations as she views no doors unopen to her. Also her tendency to host drinking sessions almost anymore, typically ALWAYS having a bottle of brandy or flask of brandy on her person. Yes, she is indeed an alcoholic, making her more loose lipped and sometimes kind and vicious. To those who serve her directly at her cannibal-farm of an abode, they call her motherly. They see a woman who does unspeakable things but still shelters a few orphans. And even though they may become her child operatives, she nonetheless has a heart to care. And thus, that is Lexin in summary. I hope my exhausted scribbling here painted a good picture of her fully in a way that I've often been lazy and too busy to implement. There are still more details about her that are key, but I figure this is good enough for now.
One True Warrior

CHILDHOOD
Alexing Guderian Dermont was born in 6E 28 in Ajestalicht, Voluntas from a scandalous affair between Innocentian Royal, a Dermont, and an ex-Voluntan military Major. She grew up with her father without any knowledge of her mother, and their poor living situation made her need to grow up quickly. They were the penny-pinching plebeians, using their communities as means to get free stuff from haircuts, clothes and food when they were short. Alexing also learned to hunt, and knew how to disassemble and reassemble her rifle by age eight. She grew up in a horrible time of growing tensions between Voluntas and Innocentia that eventually saw Victor’s War in 6E 64 in her adult career. Racial tensions were already mounting in a cold war status quo, inflamed by the Innocentian support for Voluntas’s Northern rebellion, where the Nordlowe province and its allies struggled to proclaim their Kingdom. This movement in mix with a new nationalist agenda started to scrutinize its own citizens for loyalty and more “Voluntism”. As Alexing wasn’t proficient in their flames, but instead Adjud Light, they made the choice to flee to Innocentia.Their life there was rough. Unadapted and discriminated against, they enjoyed a life on the outskirts of a large town that let them buy a run-down place that they refurbished. When Alexing’s mother arrived, she took only her and left her father behind. Ever since, Alexing believed her dad wanted nothing to do with her as the cause of his problems. She started to hate. A lot. Her feelings were tempered into watering down her morals first subtly, then further by being told to shoot a bad person, then someone who she knew nothing of, then a good person. The housemaid she cared about. Afterwards, they ran her trial after trial to further expunge the pieces of empathy, instilling order and ingraining the Innocentian culture deeply into her brain so she could talk and present to Innocentia’s elite over galas. Her new name became Lexin Maria Dermont, her middle name being her mothers.Satisfied with their product, they enlisted her in the military.

Fighting Information
General Skills:NOTE: This is likely to change as I progress through her rework. Mainly how the magic works but I am able to use this for now if need be.0 — Adjudication Light
One of five base magics within Aranea. Bestowed by she who embodies Benevolence, Serenity. It’s entirely unique to Innocentians, who can channel righteous desires into a potent, silver light. Its traditional variant, Adjudication Light, often arises at an early age and must be tempered soon after to maintain. Serenity’s gift was originally to bring beauty and people together, with its light being able to find people in the dark, the sparkles and projectiles creating fireworks, its streams in the air like floating rivers, crafting messages and making art. It illuminates homes and supports industry, but is especially prized in the arts. Its considered an elastic force, having found a major home in combat in granting "instruments" that can harness Adjudication Light, such as certain firearms and artillery pieces. Users have created constructs like great structures of architecture, mimic people and animals, shot as beams, act as bullets, bombs, artillery shells, is used on a broad scale in Kester and the Second City (the capital within the capital). Others practice different ways to apply it, with ingenuity being rewarded in theory within the technocratic councils.0 — Ambition Reservoir / Circuit
Everyone has a soul. That soul is a song. And at the core of this song, its origin, sits a string. This string is what makes melody, the sound of who we are, their emotions and their ambitions. It creates a force that can be tapped into, and fill up our hearts in a different way. The Ambition Reservoir. Then, through that reservoir is like a spiritual cardiovascular system. It allows magic travel through us seamlessly once it develops. People can expel it through many points in the body, typically in their hands, mouth or knuckles. Even mid-air is possible, and beyond. Because everyone walks with a melody around them, un-hearable in their plane of existence.Everyone is unique in such a way. Every soul can grow. However, many things do depend on just who you are born as. A Voluntan will always play the tune that creates flames. An Innocentian has Light. Griseonian will harness the matters of life and death. Polganish changes the matter it interacts with. And a Dwaskin can make illusions and tempt fate. With every type of melody creates certain features that the Ambition Reservoir and Circuit. For example, a Voluntan's AC will be sturdy and robust, which in turn makes their physical prowess something magnificent. An Innocentian's AC is often complex, meaning they have a higher body-to-magic integration, but risk harm when trying to match the same concentration. Thus, they are often left with speed, and more elasticity.Close Quarters:0 — Martial Arts
A common practice across Aranea as a means to hone different emotions, control their ambitions and learn values of different kinds. Lexin herself has had decades to work on her own style of movement. In hand-to-hand situations, she has marvelous footwork and makes use of her legs frequently as well as palm strikes combinations, embellished by her sheer inhuman speed.0 — Swordsmanship
It's a skill she learned in her earlier years as a young officer. While she later favoured marksmanship, she does carry an infantry officer's sword for medium range engagements. Oftentimes she will have one arm behind her back and make use of light footwork to find her angle. On occasion, she will dual wield.0 — Wire
Typically used to tie up opponent limbs or slice through them clean. It runs along her body, dipping into her soul to provide some greater control. Albeit the drawback is that she's attached to it. However, when she decides to get especially lethal, she can cloak them in Reckoning Light and bypass durability for a web of wires that can cut through even the soul.Medium Range:0 — Marksmanship
Lexin's favoured choice of combat. She has spent much of her career learning how to better use firearms and has done so with great success. Her person is typically equipped with two long pistols in holsters by her ribs, which she fires specially capable A.L(Adjudication Light) rounds that can run through a city. She views guns are divine, so prefers them, but if ever disarmed or short of ammunition, she will fire from her finger-tips. Furthermore, she utilizes zombies to better her sight-lines, aim at targets kilometres away like they were only six feet due to their scouting.0 — Speed
Her greatest asset at any range. She doesn't enjoy close-quarter confrontation on account that she wants lessers to keep her distance lest she puke. She makes great usage of this to achieve a blitz, ending a fight before they were aware of the fight, as well as to constantly evade and find an angle to strike. Small platforms of A.L are also to her usage, making it appear like she can walk on air.0 — Bombs
While she possesses no need for conventional munitions, she does use bombs through Adjudication Light and in various means. You may catch her plant them off her feet as she sprints across the battlefield, creating a minefield with a moment. She may drop, throw or toss an orb. Its size is often deceiving.Long/Any Range:0 — Artillery
Lexin can manifest artillery pieces both light, medium and heavy with ease, and in limitless quantity. She commonly makes use of this to create batteries, to overwhelm with A.L munitions. She can form structures of simply artillery stacked upon artillery, as well as absurd calibres, and spread this out indefinitely if her zombies are nearby.0 — Zombies
Invaluable to her arsenal. They are trapped souls who are eternally bound to their killer, Lexin. She possesses over ten million from her lifespan, and are not susceptible to conventional instruments. Only flames. It's crucial to note that Zombies are more like fanatical soldiers. Some look human and can act human. You can only denote them by their glowing white eyes. Others you can tell by the sheer monstrosity as she possesses beasts of all kinds, from a wolf with a huge mouth for a spine, to a spider made of human faces. She can summon however many she wants at once, and can co-ordinate them to conduct large-scale operations in the thousands seamlessly with no limit on their range. They can possess the skills and intelligence of their former selves, but are also versed in Lexin's base skills due her control over them. They do not tire, need sleep or can deviate from Lexin's subconscious.
Jurisdiction
0 — Reckoning Light
All Ambitions possess higher forms of some sort. Greater extension. Some just belong to a different school and others much more complex. Shared amongst all five ambitions, whether more powerful, useful or practical, they share a simple truth that the soul MUST be conditioned. Achieving such condition can take a life time for the ordinary. Or, the not-so-secret truth, is be of royal blood. For most of Aranean history, whoever held this birth-trait was destined for political power, and martial prowess. All prior skills gets an amplifier by ten, from potency, to speed and range. The Ambition Circuit enters a form of hyper-drive, grows, and the Ambition Reservoir expands to accommodate. It's at this stage that you can begin to hear the person, and starts to have psychological influence, from calming to reverence, depending on the soul. And at the zenith of Reckoning Light sits the ultimate skills in the Innocentian Ambition: Jurisdiction. One must choose out of four symbols of justice: the Scale, the Scroll, the Blindfold, and the Sword.0 — Jurisdiction Form
Upon her decision to call upon Reckoning Light, the over-drive in her Ambition Circuit turns her into a blinding figure of pure golden or silver light. She becomes impervious to all damage for a time, fully mobile as she calls upon Jurisdiction itself.0 — Serenity's Sword
Ironically, Serenity's sword manifests as a gun with one full clip for Lexin. Its bullet path carves into reality to the World of Benevolence, where chains spill from the seams and seek to restrain the target to be issued final judgement, a form of annihilation across innumerable timelines. The user becomes synonymous with the concept of justice.

"Here stands the might of God.
Infinite in every way."
String 0 (God) 0 State
All humans have mortality.
This is true even for Lexin.
But even humans can achieve the impossible. Chains that are meant to stay entrapping. Take a look at souls, for example. Every human is tied to one particular type of melody. One of five. It works like this even in the cases of breeding between heritages. That child will receive only one blessing. However, on rare occasions, it creates the small minority of those who can't use magic at all. There's an infinitely smaller chance that the two melodies trying to co-exist extinguish each other, and leave only an apathetic person, with no emotions, desires and a physical health that can turn cancerous, agonizing and self-destructive to itself and other people — Wailing Virus. Now try to be normal, then push all the ambition you can through your body, channel it, exploit it and run it through the Ambition Circuit. You will explode if your Ambition Reservoir doesn't cause you to have a heart attack already. Now what happens when you keep pushing? That raw, infinite emotion inside the soul, ugly and un-pure, swallowing who you are, and expanding to fill the A.R until it overflows. Your soul starts becoming your body. Black soul strings spill from her heart, and she can't feel anything but power and elation. She becomes a raw manifestation of hatred and human desire for violence. Everything ugly about herself, being God, being the Gardener, being the one who shall bring all into the embrace of Mother Light. That's all that's left. She has an indefinitely expanding soul inside a physically old body. Heart conditions and arthritis, high blood-pressure and a liver torn by alcoholism. Yet String State keeps her looking young. Black veins spread across her like webbing glass, her forearms and hands are discoloured, her fingers elongated with talons. Her eyes are fissures that oozes raw ambition. She has a presence so murderous that can make someone vomit, and can inspire innocent children to commit heinous acts of violence against another Meatbag. And while String State is just that, a state of herself, it has slowly become more of her. Its triggered by her health, with semi-frequent heart attacks and high stress, she will have an episode, or through mortal wounds suffered in battle. God takes the wheel. She fights closer to an animal. Her teeth become sharp and she'll cannibalize indiscriminately, with the strength to rip you apart, and any armour. Adjudication Light is no longer possible — nor is jurisdiction. She attacks with a relentless fury and disgust for you. She is much MUCH more durable than her normal self. Soul Strings will repair any damage, adding to the body horror. Mortal wounds become irrelevant and she'll bleed a darker red, if at all. The only way to stop her is by removing the heart, and crushing it permanently, severing the door between her Soul and Body.
Decrees of God
0 Abstract Loyalty — "You all wanted an answer to every question. Every problem is mine to solve. I ask you then, will you still look up to me now? Me, in infinite glory. A light that no longer shines."Inside everyone is our craving for violence and capacity for hate. It is Lexin's sheer presence that can exploit that feeling into something that swallows you. Conflicting with our morals, she can drive saints to puke. It makes people faint. The weight of many-many millions are circling her. Their pain, hatred and her own bloodlust. It creates a sickness that causes black veins to spread across the victims, and they too become agitated, then animalistic, attacking on her whims in total disregard for self-preservation, fully aware of the pain, but simply can't stop. If you are scratched, then the infection is immediate than gradual. Simply being touched could have the effect of squashing any conscious or intelligence possessed before, becoming just another soul tethered to her.0 Soul Strings — "The truth is I haven't changed at all. I have always been far beyond what you can comprehend. When you face that reality, it drives you mad, doesn't it? Hahahahahaha..."Her body is crawling with these and they are like perpetually moving snakes just under her skin. They spill across the environment and create structures. They can be launched at a target, enveloping and restraining them. She can bind herself back together when faced with any damage. It all pours from her heart, and the Soul Strings can infect anything, leaving behind a powerful murderous stench.- Gates of Et Semper Liberi — "The further from my likeness you stray, the more ugly everything around you becomes. I can't stand it. Nothing can stray from God, not even the Strings of Desire."Lexin's claws can leave slices in reality that cut a rift to another world, close to Et Semper Liberi, in a place where primal forces collide. Black strings, much like the ones in her body, spill from the gaps and seek to envelop the target of Lexin's hate, then take them into the rift for damnation.- Apocalypse — "The human condition eternally seeks out conflict with its neighbours, from the Great Storm to the omens of Baguerville. Nothing has ever been decided. One always remains to rebuild. I bring upon you, my solution — the war to end all wars.”Every zombie is released, infected by distorted ambition. Millions appear anywhere in the world, resemble mutated humanoid beasts, with fractured complexions as the ambition breaks through their physical form. They look like burning plates of flesh, that run, shooting ambition from their mouth and eating anyone they see. It's a horde that can infect through bites, scratches and outright eating, infecting the soul.
Mark of Mad Lewis
To be re-written!
soul, string, body
Every Aranean possesses three things that harnesses their ambition from concept into physical execution. The String, the instrument to which sources the power. It is the conceptual make up of the person’s Ambition, tuned to one of five Strings of Desire: Malevolence, Benevolence, Tenacity, Temptation and Primitivity. What tune they play is purely hereditary. The soul, the person themselves and their conscience, which resonates with the String. It is what the String sits inside. The Soul also forms a metaphysical doorway around the heart, the magic reservoir, to which leads into the magic circuit throughout the body and enables projection. Normal Araneans possess some form of magical circuit in them, and the process of gaining strength has always been about strengthening and growing their magic circuit and reservoir, allowing for more Ambition and more potent ambition to be projected into power. Royalty and nobility of Aranea possess an innate advantage with a highly developed Magic circuit, thus need only expand their Reservoir. Those outside the nobility must train both, a feat one-hundred times more difficult and time-consuming.String Affliction is the rapid mutation and malforming of the String. It is a supremely rare and incurable disease, if you want to call it that, with all causes unknown but increased risk with mixing Voluntan and Innocentian Strings via offspring due to their opposing natures. This brand of String Affliction is called “Mad Lewis” But in all cases, instead of the soul which harnesses the String to pump Ambition through the Reservoir and Ambition Circuit, it is the String that grows, malforms and mutates within the soul and generates an infallible amount of conceptual force through it. The soul becomes overwhelmed, resulting in the affliction spilling into the Reservoir and resulting in two outcomes. One: The Reservoir and Ambition circuit are unable to accommodate this strength, the soul and string extinguish the other, resulting in the painful slow decay of the person as the power destroys the body. However, this results in a contagious sickness known as Wailing Virus, with the destructive Ambition becoming present in the body via fluids and respiratory. Two: Neither the soul, Reservoir or Ambition circuit adapts, resulting in the combustion of said person on all levels and extinguishment of the string.Three: The Ambition circuit and Reservoir mutates and expands to accommodate. Soul tendrils spill from the heart, so potent is the force that pumps through, it becomes visible like these multi-colored tattoos that spread and slowly expand, with a crest over the heart. Some experience a change in the eyes. Others become malformed in appearance. If they can achieve symbiosis between circuit/reservoir, soul and string, this creates unique and immense power. The afflicted can wield a mutated form of Two Ambitions, a taboo feat. The sheer quantities flowing through them makes their potential enormous, rendering them ageless and the ability to heal wounds in some manner, along with embellishment to their speed, strength or both. However, the continued unstable resonance and strain on the soul chews on the person mentally. They become driven by endless and often destructive pursuits. Concepts of morals and relationships warp and fade. Feelings of grandeur. Paranoia. Delusions. Sometimes they degrade into animalistic savagery. Eventually, they become more of an ambition-driven monster than any sort of human. The afflicted may choose to expedite the slow process via a self-inflicted heart wound, throwing themselves into an overcharged unstable state for a period of time by flooding the Ambition circuit to its limit. However, the affliction expands during this time much quicker and regresses less each time. This is called the “String State.” The end-stage of the affliction is permanent String State. Methods to deal with someone who manages to live with String Affliction is by closing the gateway between body, soul and string. This is the total removal or destruction of the heart. They can also, at any time, lose their symbiosis, resulting in a apocalyptical explosion.
